Affordable website design means paying for the work your website needs, not for an office, a sales team and layers of account managers. For most small businesses, the best value comes from working directly with an experienced designer who publishes fixed prices. With me, that's a Starter website from $1,000 + GST, a landing page for $1,500 + GST, or a custom website from $3,500 + GST, with payment plans on every package.
Affordable doesn't have to mean cheap. Here's where the money goes, where you can save, and where you shouldn't.
Affordable vs cheap: what's the difference?
A cheap website costs little up front and often costs more later. It might be slow, hard to update, missing basics like page titles, or locked to a platform you can't leave.
An affordable website costs a fair price for something that works: designed properly, fast on a phone, set up for Google, and fully yours. The aim isn't the lowest number. It's the most value for the money you spend.
Where agency overheads go
When you hire an agency, part of your quote covers the work, and part covers running the agency. That can include:
- An office and its running costs
- Sales and account managers
- Project managers coordinating the team
- Hand-offs between several people on one project
None of that is wrong. For big, complex projects, those people earn their keep. But for a small business website, a lot of that cost doesn't make your site any better. I compared the two approaches in detail in freelance web designer vs agency.
How I keep my websites affordable
I started Coco Creatives because small business owners kept getting stuck between agency prices and DIY templates. Here's how I keep the cost down without cutting corners:
- It's just me. No account managers, no outsourcing. You talk to the person designing and building your site, so nothing gets lost in hand-offs.
- Fixed, published prices. Everything is on my pricing page, and your quote is fixed before work starts. No surprise invoices.
- Proven designs for faster projects. My ready-made websites start from a design I've already built, so you're not paying for a blank canvas when you don't need one.
- Payment plans on every package. Starter and landing pages can be paid in 2 payments, and Custom in 3.
- You own it. Every site is editable WordPress that's fully yours, so you're never paying to escape a platform later.

What your budget gets you
Here's a plain comparison of my three packages:
| Starter | Landing page | Custom | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | From $1,000 + GST | $1,500 + GST | From $3,500 + GST |
| Payment plan | 2 payments of $500 | 2 payments of $750 | 3 payments of $1,167 |
| What it is | A one-page site from a finished design | One page for one offer | A site designed from scratch |
| Also included | The Website Prep Checklist | Matching ad creatives and a CRO report | The Launch & Lead-Ready Bundle and Client Vault |
| Timeframe | Live in about a week | Set out in your quote | Clear timeline in your quote |
| Best for | Getting online quickly on a budget | Turning ad clicks into enquiries | Businesses that need more pages, bookings or a unique look |
A Starter website gives you a single page styled to your brand, with your words and photos, a contact form, click-to-call and your domain and hosting set up.
A landing page is built for one offer, with copy, imagery, matching ad creatives, tracking and a CRO report on what's stopping people from enquiring.
A custom website includes two clickable homepage directions, 6 service pages, motion built in, a blog, up to 4 integrations and SEO setup.
Where you can save, and where you shouldn't
Good places to save:
- Start smaller. A one-page site now, with room to upgrade later. Your content, domain and hosting carry straight over.
- Bring your own words and photos. Content writing is a real cost. If you can write it, you save it.
- Use the booking system you already have. Connecting an existing system costs less than building something new.
- Skip features you won't use. Every extra integration is setup and testing time.
Places not to cut corners:
- Mobile. Most of your customers will see your site on a phone first.
- Search basics. Page titles, descriptions and headings are what help Google understand your business.
- Ownership. Make sure you own the website, the domain and the logins.
- Speed. A slow site loses people before they've read a word.
What affordable looks like by industry
The right budget depends on what your website needs to do. For example, most trade sites come in well under $4,000 + GST, depending on how many services and suburb pages you need. My page on websites for tradies shows a real one: the live site for MM Projects, a Sydney builder.
The same goes for clinics. Most clinic sites come in well under $4,000 + GST too, depending on how many practitioners and condition pages you need, which I explain on my page about websites for physiotherapists.

Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest way to get a professional website?
With me, it's a Starter website from $1,000 + GST: a one-page site from one of my finished designs, tailored to your brand and usually live in about a week. You can pay it in 2 payments of $500.
Are there hidden costs with an affordable website?
There shouldn't be. Ask what's included and what's ongoing. With me, every price is fixed and quoted up front, and the only ongoing costs are hosting and your domain renewal.
Do you offer payment plans for websites?
Yes, on every package. Starter and landing pages can be paid in 2 payments, and Custom websites in 3.
Is a cheap website bad for SEO?
Not automatically, but cheap sites often skip page titles, descriptions, proper headings and mobile speed. Those basics are included in every site I build, from the Starter website up.
Can I upgrade an affordable website later?
Yes. Lots of businesses start with a Starter site and move to a custom website as they grow, with their content, domain and hosting carried straight over.
